If you run a clinic, trades shop, church office, or retail counter in the Comox Valley, there is a good chance at least one work PC is still on Windows 10. Microsoft ended support in October 2025. In 2026 we still walk into Courtenay, Comox, and Cumberland offices where that machine boots every morning — no scare story, just a quiet gap.

Human Touch IT is a family-owned MSP based in the Comox Valley. We help small businesses refresh ageing PCs the peaceful way: right-sized refurbished or new business gear, careful file migration, and an install day that gets you back to work without the drama.

Why unsupported Windows is a quiet risk

Unsupported does not mean the PC stops working overnight. It means:

  • Security updates have stopped — the quiet gap grows over time
  • New banking, booking, and vendor software may refuse to install
  • Slow boots and freezes cost staff hours you never invoice for
  • It is harder to show due care if something goes wrong

You do not need a corporate IT department to fix this. You need a practical refresh plan and a local partner who will not sell you a blank cheque.

Signs it is time for a PC refresh

We see the same three cues across Valley offices:

  1. Slow PCs that stall the day — Boots drag, apps freeze, the front desk waits.
  2. No more security updates — Unsupported Windows leaves a quiet gap on devices that hold client or patient data.
  3. Software will not install — Banks, booking tools, and vendors move on; your old box cannot follow.

If two of those sound familiar, a refresh usually pays for itself in fewer stalled mornings.

Two practical paths (we research the better channel for you)

Option A — Staples Preferred refurbished + HTIT install CAD $150
We research Staples Preferred and similar channels for roughly 10% better price on business desktops and laptops when it fits. You save on the gear; Human Touch IT handles installation for CAD $150 — migrate files, set up printers, and get you productive the same day. Win-win: client saves on hardware, we earn a clean install. No invented SKUs — we quote what is actually available when you are ready.

Option B — Trusted Amazon.ca business gear
When a specific laptop, micro desktop, or monitor is the better fit, we point you to verified Amazon.ca Associates picks (tag humantouchi09-20). Prices change — we never hardcode them. Current verified links we use:

Either path can work. We help you choose based on budget, form factor, and how fast you need the desk back online.

What HTIT does on install day

Onsite in Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, and nearby:

  1. Migrate your files — Documents, bookmarks, printers — moved carefully.
  2. Basics on the new PC — Endpoint protection and a single monitoring agent ready (one complete stack per device — not a pile of overlapping tools).
  3. Light MFA check — Confirm sign-in habits before we leave.
  4. You back to work — Same desk, fresher machine, less waiting.

Install is CAD $150. Ongoing managed IT (when you want peace of mind) is positioned to cost less than a typical electricity bill for many Valley offices — ask us for a plain-English quote.

A calm refresh plan (not a scare campaign)

Start with an inventory: which machines are still on Windows 10, which hold client or patient data, and which are just slow. Then pick the path that fits — Staples Preferred refurbished when the channel price wins, Amazon.ca when a specific verified model fits better, or a mix for a multi-desk office. Human Touch IT handles the install day so you are not left with a box of cables and a weekend of guessing. Text preferred at +1 250-792-0190 (call, text or WhatsApp) if you want that inventory walkthrough as a free IT assessment.

Who this helps in the Valley

  • Trades offices and shop-floor boxes still on unsupported Windows
  • Churches and nonprofits with admin machines past their prime
  • Retail shops and boutiques whose booking or POS desktop is slowing down
